Reviews And Feedback

The lessons are very clear and well understood. Every lesson the teacher checks whether we understood the material or have questions and makes sure things are clear. He has patience for us, students, and is attentive and cooperative when it comes to every request we have regarding the curriculum or the manner in which the lesson is conducted.

The Connecting Hamza’s teacher is the third teacher of beginning Arabic I have experienced. He is far and away the best…

I feel very fortunate to have found your NGO and our teacher. I have really come to love Arabic, and I’m sure that’s because of him. He loves his language and his culture, and at the same time he stands outside of it with an independent mind…

He is a born teacher and I sense that he takes great pride in his work and in his students and gets great gratification from their progress. He invests so much of himself in each lesson and in his teaching.

I’ve studied Arabic with other groups in the past, but there is no comparison with the learning in this course in terms of the lesson planning, both pedagogically and didactically…

The study material was accompanied by reference pages, which are coloured and aesthetically pleasing making the studying easier.

It is evident that much thought and planning is involved in preparing such material. Above all, learning a language with a native Arabic speaker that is his mother tongue was of particular importance and a truly educative experience.

The teacher himself is a special person with great grace, who takes great responsibility for our studies, and is kind, knowledgeable and shows an endless willingness to help.

Our teacher’s lesson plans are well structured and build on each other, meaning that things from previous lessons stick.

He shows flexibility in adapting to the needs of the student and offers a variety of different methods of teaching with different focuses, keeping it fresh.

The discussions during the lessons, now for the most part conducted in Arabic, are interesting and amusing, giving us a glimpse into Arabic culture and daily life as a Palestinian.

We have been studying Arabic in our group for several months. We have a nice group and an excellent teacher!  I believe that as two nations sharing this very small land we must find a way to communicate and learning each other’s language is basic. The language is a mirror of the culture, helps us understand each other as individuals and people.

The teacher is doing an excellent job. His teaching is methodical and comprehensive and he does it with love and a lot of patience.

Hopefully in the future I will also be able to write this in Arabic…

Thank you so much for everything !

LILI BROG, Beginners Sunday group

As a someone who for years had been in and out of courses for learning Arabic, I must admit that never before have I met such an excellent ‘team’ of two most dedicated and inspiring people.

Michal’s organizational skills and strong drive to make our lessons a success, under no easy conditions, is beyond words, and have contributed to the fact that the number of the participants hardly changed from the beginning.

Our young teacher no doubt is the driving force of the course. His thorough knowledge of the language and teaching skills, his highly enthusiastic spirit, his patience and above all warm and kind personality is commendable, and I feel lucky to be his student.

With much respect and sincerity”

I love my lessons. I’ve learned so much from the teacher, and his patience and his demeanor are what make him so good… I am so so happy with my progress in writing and reading. I can’t even begin to tell you. I am so proud. Yesterday he had sent us a new lesson assignment and I… answered all 17 questions in Arabic!

Rashel Hirschhaut Collins

Among the teacher’s excellent qualities are his endless patience, his humor, and an astute perception of the difficulties we encounter in learning this not-so-easy language.

Rachel Suissa

Our teacher’s patience is priceless and his dedication to the group and to our learning process is amazing! it is clear he is doing what he does best!

The lessons were infused with fascinating background material about Palestinian culture and lifestyle which has enriched my experience and understanding, and led to a deeper feeling of warmth and interest in the Arab culture around us…

Our teacher has been very open to all our questions and his enthusiasm and charm never flag…. We have felt that he really believes in our ability to get a grasp of the language and that it is really important to him that we succeed.

Harriet Nechama Hillman

The teacher is excellent, and has a knack for teaching, conducting his lessons with patience and kindness.

The prepared readings and complimentary material were clear, detailed and exhaustive, and consisted of varied and different types of materials.

Liora DahAri

All the lessons are carefully prepared and organized. We could see how much thought and effort were put into the lessons in order to let us experience meaningful learning…

Having never studied Arabic before, I was very excited to realize that after only few lessons I could start communicating and blessing the people, to their surprise, with the right words and in the correct manner.

Arabic is a beautiful rich language but not an easy one to learn.

To teach it correctly requires an instructor with special skills. This is especially true when a student like myself is in his mid-80s.

Prior to joining this NGO I had tried other classes including those online. None had proven satisfactory to my need.

However, the teacher of The Connecting Hamza has provided me over the past 18 months with an outstanding learning experience.

Personally, I am more than satisfied with the progress I have made… The teacher’s class is extremely well structured and one feels that he has spent much time in preparing for each session.

He understands the areas which are going to prove difficult and has great patience in the reinforcing the learning in such situations.

Stanley Dalnekoff

I enjoy our lessons and really look forward to each meeting. I see how much the teacher loves his language! He’s taught us so much and has so much patience to answer questions and explain everything.

I am very impressed with his ability to adapt the lessons to a ZOOM format

I would like to thank you for all your efforts in teaching us Arabic.

شكراً كتير يا معلم. بحب كتير دراسة الغربي. بدي احكي اكتر

One of the best language classes I have ever had! The teacher explains things very well, is very patient and does not mind repeating as many times as needed. I really enjoy his classes.

Eva Lutkevitch

The classes are great… I feel like it’s beginning to stick with me, especially (of course) when I actually work on my Arabic during the week.

And I really like the fact that we are using the alphabet and writing in Arabic, rather than transliterating everything. I look forward to meeting in person again…some day…but other than that, I feel very fortunate to be doing the class.

David Green

I enjoy our lessons, I am starting to read signs on the street and understand words in Arabic, here and there, through conversations I hold with my Arab students (I teach Hebrew). Our teacher is good and explains very well and clearly. I am also glad that we are learning how to read and write, even if it takes more time. Overall, the course is great.

Lilakh Dolberg

I have really enjoyed studying with our teacher for the past 4 years. I feel I have learned a lot and he is a lovely person to interact with.

Chana Stein

I’ve learned a lot of Arabic over the past year… I love lessons with my teacher, and I am now writing correspondences in Arabic.

انا تعلمت كتير باللغة العربية السنة الماضية. انا بقدر اقرا كلمات باللغة العربية وبقدر احكي وأكتب جمل باللغة العربية. انا بلطش تلطيش.

 انا بتعلم اكتر واكتر كلمات.

انا بقدر اصرف افعال. انا بحب الدروس مع معلمي وانا بفهم مخاطبات اكتب باللغة العربية.

شكراً كتير !

"The connecting Hamza" association initiates connecting Jews and Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians, through learning each other's language. The purpose of this learning is to provide a basis for an ongoing process of getting familiar with the meanings and nuances that are embedded in each language in order to pave the road to understanding the cultures and traditions of the participants. The process of teaching each other creates bonding on a personal level through a combination of fun and challenge. The process will include, among other things, educational and cultural workshops, such as: sharing authentic Arabic and Israeli music, food, lectures, watching films and discussing them and tours that allow experiencing the togetherness through fun, non-political activities. Getting to know each other on a personal level allows the participants to overcome the barrier of fear, suspicion and dehumanization of the other. Hamzah (Arabic: همزة‎) (ء) is a phonemic glottal stop in Arabic that is produced at the beginning of uttering a sound. More precisely, hamzat QaTaA is a sound that blocks the vocal tract. However, the name of our non-governmental organization is derived from hamzat wasil (hamzat al-wasil همزة الوصل) which, UNLIKE the hamzat QaTaA, does not block the vocal tract but rather helps connecting and merging the sounds of two words. This phenomenon symbolizes the purpose of our activities: to connect people from both sides on an individual level through language despite the barriers; Despite the "hamzat QaTaA": the obstacle that blocks the progress, the flow and the connection.
